About Me: 

Dr. Yilmaz received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, Bradley University and New Mexico State University, respectively. He has been a noted author of many publications in the fields of combustion, CFD, rocket propellants and internal combustion engines. He was a U.S. Department of Energy Visiting Faculty Fellow at Sandia National Laboratories in 2012 and 2013. Dr. Yilmaz serves as the editor-in-chief for the SAE International Journal of Fuels and Lubricants and an associate editor for the ASME Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power. He has educated and trained many underrepresented minority and female students via various STEM programs including NSF-funded AMP (Alliance for Minority Participation) program.

Dr. Yilmaz is the 2014 NSPE National Young Engineer of the Year, given to a professional engineer under the age of 35 in the United States, nationally. He also won the ASEE Section Outstanding Teaching Award (2013), the SAE International Excellence in Engineering Education “Triple E” Award (2016), SAE Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award (2011) and SAE Faculty Advisor Award (2013 and 2016). Dr. Yilmaz is a Fellow of ASME, a Fellow of NSPE and a Fellow of SAE International.

Oluwade Receives Tau Beta Pi Fellowship Award

Abimbola Oluwade, a 2020 mechanical engineering graduate, has been awarded a graduate fellowship from Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society. Oluwade will receive a cash stipend of $10,000 to pursue graduate studies in mechanical engineering. Oluwade plans to obtain his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering with a concentration in fluid mechanics and thermal processes. Tau Beta Pi Fellowships are awarded on the basis of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.Read More >>

Student Speaker Melissa Douglas Receives 2020 BEYA Student Leadership Award

Mechanical engineering graduate Melissa Douglas will serve as the student speaker for the 2020 College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) Awards and Recognition Ceremony. This spring, Douglas received a 2020 BEYA Student Leadership Award for her outstanding leadership as president of both the DC Alpha Chapter of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, and the Howard University chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
